Thousands of us struggle everyday with our ongoing weight issues. People unsuccessfully try various diet programs in hope of finding a lasting way of reducing weight in their bodies. Most people are not aware of that fact that most fad diet programs deliver only temporary results. Most people who follow one of the various diet programs and lose weight are not aware of the fact that, once they give up the diet and start eating as usual, or start consuming food that is not part of the diet program, they are going to regain each and every pound that they lost. In worse cases, people end up gaining more weight than they lost; only a person who has restrained their stomach’s wants for months to see results can understand the total frustration such a situation can cause.
This is exactly the reason why an alkaline diet system is different, unique and result producing. For, unlike other dieting fads, this is not only about reducing weight by hook or crook to achieve the ideal weight for your body’s build. An alkaline diet system is more about developing overall health, promoting a sense of fully rounded well-being and bodily strength.
Let us try to understand our body a little bit more. We are all aware of the fact that we are equipped with a supremely efficient digestive system that processes all the food that we consume and breaks them down into essential nutrients and unwanted waste. Based on the nature of the food i.e. its PH index, it leaves behind an acidic or alkaline residue in our intestines. So, the more acidic food we consume, the more acidic residue the intestines have to encounter and vice versa.
So, what happens to this acidic/alkaline residue that is left behind in our intestines? It most certainly does not stay in the intestines; instead, it is absorbed into our blood stream and is then carried by the blood to every organ, tissue and cell that exists in our body. In effect, the PH of the blood in our body is determined by this acidic/alkaline residue that the food we consume leaves behind.
Our bodies were naturally made to be slightly more alkaline than acidic in nature. But, as a result of the typical western diet habits relying heavily on junk/fast food with heavy refined sugar content, meat and dairy products and excess amounts of fat, this balance is reversed; a more acidic body leads to various lifestyle related ailments such as diabetes and obesity.
The whole mantra behind an alkaline diet is to restore a balance between acidic-alkaline residues and bring back the right PH levels in our bodies, in effect making them more alkaline in nature. This diet is not astrophysics; cut down on refined foods, aerated or caffeinated drinks, baked food and pastries that rely heavily on refined flour and sugar to cut down acidic intake. Look to nature to find an abundant array of foods that are alkaline in nature: fresh green vegetables such as celery, broccoli and any kind of citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges are highly recommended for daily intake. Also, one of the easiest steps towards an alkaline body is to up your intake of water; consume water all through your day at regular intervals!
